Fire blankets for EVs and all lithium-ion batteries – scooters, bikes, tools.

While lithium batteries represent a major step forward in green energy, it’s important to be aware of the potential hazards they pose.

As these batteries age, they become more susceptible to damage. Everyday incidents such as knocks, road vibrations, potholes, rapid charging, or using an overpowered charger can cause fractures within the battery cells. These internal faults create ideal conditions for a fire to start.

The smoke produced by such fires is highly toxic. It attacks calcium in the body — primarily found in bones — posing a serious health risk. Extinguishing a lithium battery fire typically requires more than double the amount of water compared to a conventional fire. Even once extinguished, the water runoff is contaminated and hazardous, requiring specialist clean-up procedures.

If not swiftly contained, these fires can spread quickly to nearby objects, leading to widespread damage. In severe cases, entire premises or surrounding areas may need to be sealed off and declared ‘no-go’ zones.

Bridghill Fire Blankets offer an effective solution for safely containing these types of fires.
Simply deploy the blanket over the affected area and leave it in place for 18 to 24 hours. The fire is smothered by oxygen deprivation, allowing it to burn out safely. This approach minimises structural damage and significantly reduces the need for post-fire clean-up. Crucially, the building can often remain operational.

We strongly recommend including these products in your Premises Information Documents and notifying your local fire brigade that you have them on-site.

We provide full training on the use of Bridghill blankets for Company Fire Wardens, Fire Marshals, and local fire services.

Blankets are available in standard sizes from 1.5m x 1.5m up to 6m x 8m, with custom sizes available upon request.
